This project involved the design and development of a custom blackletter typeface named Herald, created through a multi-stage process beginning with construction studies on graph paper to establish foundational strokes using key letters (n, o, i, h, y, a). The design was then refined through hand-drawn iterations, expanding into a full character set including uppercase, lowercase, numerals, and punctuation. The final phase involved digitizing and refining the typeface in Glyphs to create a functional, usable font. Herald was designed to feel imposing and architectural, with exaggerated high ascenders and shortened descenders to enhance its vertical tension. The overall intent was to balance intimidation with a storybook quality, resulting in a typeface that feels both authoritative and characterful, with a name that suggests leadership while also carrying a subtle, personal identity.
